This bit is made of stainless steel and is a loose-ring snaffle with a thinner loose-ring snaffle attached to it. An overcheck is attached to either side of the thinner snaffle which runs up the centre of the horse’s face, to the pollpiece. This is a bit only used on very headstrong racehorses. The action of the overcheck snaffle is very severe – when the reins are pulled there is extreme nutcracker action into the palate as well as intense pressure on the front of the horse’s nose.
